    Voyager 258 Fuel Burn

If GW doesn't have your exact configuration, they will have something close. Btw, was the 258 called the Voyager in 2003? Does the hull go all the way to the transom? GW did some weird things with the names and numbers when the running surfaces were extended and top sides were updated. Just...

    Looking at 228 or 258

I was implying that the bracket enables one to mount downriggers aft on the gunnels allowing the downrigger ball to drop over the back of the boat. This would possibly pose more of an issue with the 258 euro transom unless the downrigger arm is much longer or is angled off to the side.

Call or email GW customer service. They will send you performance info if they tested that hull with that engine.

    Crazy mistake on my part

I too am having fun with trailer brakes. Other than newer engines, most boat and trailer systems are engineered and manufactured with early 1980's automotive quality and robustness. 5 years from now boat builders will wonder where all the customers went from the 18-21 boat boom. They went broke...

    Looking at 228 or 258

I think both will have similar deck space with the 258 being 6" wider. I'm not sure how downriggers would work with the 258 euro transom. The bracket of the 228 might work but you might need to remove the swim step/platform. Doing so will lose any way to reboard the boat. I'm also curious to...

228 trolling speed with a digital 250hp Yamaha in troll mode?

You only have a couple options to get to sub 2.0 mpg with a big single. Unfortunately they all have drawbacks. Trolling plate Trolling bags Combination of 1&2 A prop that will have your engine on the tev limiter at 30 mph. We went with option 3. 2 trolling bags were a PIA, and made it...

    Planning my "boat cover"

Good move to invest in a toy shed. My only comment is on the opening. I've had a 10' door for an 8'6" boat and now have a 12' door. Sure you can back in an 8'6" boat into 10'6", but it gets a lot tougher at night, after a long day, spotters went to the house, glare and shadows from lights...

On the water impressions of my 228

They did make that boat: the Explorer 24.;) https://www.boattrader.com/boat/1994-grady-white-24-explorer-7192037/ Always liked that one. The Voyager/Journey works a little better for me though.

Steering wheel removal from Seastar helm

I shimmed up the steering shaft perfectly, but it can never be that easy. I had to use a bronze thrust washer to make this happen. The galvanic charts suggest bronze can not be in contact with aluminum. I believe the tilt housing is aluminum (need to put a magnet on it)and the bronze washer is...

Steering wheel removal from Seastar helm

Curious to know what style assembly you have. My tilt assembly at best has 1/16" clearance to get under it. No puller exist to enable getting under it either externally or internally.

Is yours the fixed mount or tilt? I've read fixed mount has a replaceable bushing, while the tilt style does not.

If greenboard gets saturated, it will delaminate when it freezes.

I'm going to attempt to shim mine now. I'll let you all know if it accomplishes anything.

Steering wheel removal from Seastar helm

Unfortunately the THT lore is not true. There is no bushing. However one can replace the assembly for a mere $300 or a THT fellow claims 90% of the movement can be eliminated with a brass washer behind the snap ring. I think I'll try option "b" 1st.

Hopefully just replacing the shaft bushing. Squeaky and has a little play.

Steering wheel removal from Seastar helm

Thought I would post this since a wheel puller won't fit and all the online folks claim that striking the center shaft with a hammer while pulling will dislodge it. It wont. A little heat with a mini torch and an air hammer on the center shaft while pullingEz-Pz.

If I'm not mistaken, most of the GW boats of that vintage have an aluminum brace embedded into the transom connected to the stringers. I'm not sure if balsa was used in the sidewalls and if the hatches and deck used greenboard, so be sure to investigate those properly.
