My guess is the dealer put your 228 on a 20-22 7000 lb trailer. While there is sufficient capacity weight wise, its not long enough. Mine went on 22-24 7000 lb trailers....and yes - I was in control of the trailer procurement process. The 180 is the first boat that I have purchased in over 15...

All I know is both of my Seafarers (the 226 and 228) were on 7000 lb Loadmasters. Oversized I-beams...Kodiak brakes....SS hardware...front center bunks...radial tires...etc.... The trailer was not cheap, but I never had a problem with either one. I add up the weights...add 15% cushion...and...

3 blade to 4 blade prop pitch question

I found a substantial difference between a stock Yamaha SWS wheel and the corresponding Merc Mirage Plus. You might try one of them before you move to a 4 blade. And - they are readily available on eBay (I bought mine there.) Buy one...try it...if you aren't happy...take it off and put it...

    Buying/refurbishing a tournament 19

Actually, the starboard is not particularly expensive. If you aren't handy with a jig or don't want to cut it yourself, you can remove and label all the old pieces, then send them to Fin Addict (http://www.finaddictmarine.com) I've had them make several things for me...cupholders...dash...

    Buying/refurbishing a tournament 19

I had an '86 190....one of the last years where the dash didn't have a radio box, and the transom was 20" instead of 25". I'd scrap the teak and replace it with duratrim or better yet, starboard. Use the pieces as a guide and get yourself some sheets of 1/4" in the almond GW color. Save...

    Cost To Repower

If a Yamaha is coming off the boat, a new HPDI will bolt right up. You can use the existing harnesses, cables, etc... A change of the tach to a new one with a new hourmeter would be nice, and it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and swap out the oil tank, but you will save on labor and accessories.

Who has a walkaround Grady on a Venture bunk trailer?

I think if you put the winch stand inside the frame rails, as far forward as you can go, and then give it a try. If it works, extend the main bunks. You can ditch that front roller...either way it's useless.

Who has a walkaround Grady on a Venture bunk trailer?

You could probably slide the boat back 3-4" and see some improvement. Your bunks would come within an inch or so of the transom which would be OK. Or, slide it back 6". If that fixes the problem, then look into getting longer wooden bunks cut to fit. Does the main center tube extend into...

Glad to hear they took good care of you. Will you be putting her away for the winter now, or are you planning any trips?

Who has a walkaround Grady on a Venture bunk trailer?

The boat needs to be slid back....you can make the main bunks longer if necessary so that they still reach the transom, but if the winch stand is all the way back, then you are going to have problems on the front end. My guess is perhaps a taller winch stand and longer bunks may work. But, as...

Who has a walkaround Grady on a Venture bunk trailer?

Its the wrong trailer for the boat... If you can't slide the boat back far enough to get your tongue weight to around 7%, and get the weight over the axles, then you need to look at other options. Did you just buy the trailer?

Who has a walkaround Grady on a Venture bunk trailer?

The "target pad"...AKA front centering bunks...make it much easier to load the boat. They will not increase capacity, adjust tongue weight, etc... You need a trailer with close to 6000 lbs capacity (around 7000 GVW) for that boat....do you have the right size trailer?

    Engine mounting position

I wouldn't drop it....you will use more fuel, experience a lower top end, and increase the drag. Are you experiencing a bow rise when you plane out? Can it be controlled by trimming the motor all the way down?

    226 Seafarer Questions

The rail socket may also be for a burgee.... Not sure about the electronics box plexiglass. I can't remember if the 2000 has the full across e-box, or just on the drivers side. It may be some kind of wind deflector that was added on by the previous owner.

    1998 200 HP OX66

If its a carbed motor, its not an OX66. It is however a "Saltwater Series". I have one on the back of my 180, and my 228 that I had a few years back also had a carbed SWS motor. They don't look, smell or sound any different. The only difference is you have to go through a little more work to...

Adventure 208 Owner Needs Electronics Advice Please

If your 208 is an '01 or newer, the e-box opening is bigger than the '98-2000 models. You can maximize full use of the box, and get a 7" screen in there, but anything else in there will have to be moved. This is not a big deal if you go with one of the S/H or ICOM black box VHFs with display...
