    Question on Explore vs Voyager

LadyGrady: the Voyager is a bit bigger of a boat boat in length, beam and weight. I expect it would ride a bit better. If you look through the 1995 and 1996 catalogs on Grady's website, you'll see the differences. Also, keep in mind that earlier Explorers will not have the SV2 hull and that also...

    Finally I'm a Grady owner!

Congratulations on a great looking boat. We had a 208 for ten years. I hope you enjoy yours as much as we did! Rob

What GPS/Chartplotter/Radar would you recommend for a T275

Ken: Welcome to the forum. I too am partial to Garmin for their good service and ease of use. I currently have the 4208. I see that BOE is running a great sale on the 3010. I looked at the Raymarine when buying and recall that their unit could not overlay weather onto the navigation chart. That...

Drain Extender in the live well

Legend: The stand pipe that came with my 2005 Grady had hard plastic threads. A more recent replacement has the soft rubber threads. Grady factory may be able to point you to the manufacturer of the previous plastic threads. Rob

GelCoat Chip Damage to the Starboard Strake - Pictures Incl.

Just in case your dealer doesn't get you in quickly, I don't think a couple of days of use will have any potential to make the problem worse from a water-absorbing perspective. I think it would take the boat sitting in the water for months to make a difference. Rob

    20' vs 22'

John: Welcome to the forum. We had a 1995 208 for ten years before going to the 258. The 208 was a great boat. It is a nice, open deck and good for dive gear. We made a number of crossings to the Bahamas - on good weather days! Grady's website ( http://www.gradywhite.com/208/ )will give...

whirring sound coming from cuddy of my seafarer

Some pumps have internal float switches. If you can't find and external switch, that may be the case here.

GelCoat Chip Damage to the Starboard Strake - Pictures Incl.

bdub: I have put similar dings in about the same spot a couple of times over the years. I think it is all the pre-dawn running I do. Your chips go through the gelcoat and expose the fiberglass so they should be addressed. Over a long time the fiberglass can absorb some water and make a...

360 Grady Owners with twin 350s we need your help

Flawaterbug: Welcome to the forum. I don't know the answer to your question, but below are the numbers Grady posts on their website for a 360 w twin F350s. I have generally found Grady's numbers to be accurate so long as you keep in mind the phrase "optimum conditions". I suspect others will...

    AGM Batteries

I use AGMs mostly for the peice of mind. Found them on sale so they were about 50% more than lead-acid, as opposed to twice as much. I have also read that Yamaha recommends against gel batteries for its four-strokes. However, it is my Yammy mechanic who recommended AGMs (but not gel). AGMs...

    newbie question on SeaV2 hulls

Re: structural refurbishing? Yes, the hull is all fiberglass. Inside the hull and beneath the deck are wood stringers which reinforce the hull and help maintain it's shape. Wood is a strong material for it's weight, so it does a good job reinforcing the hull so we can go bashing through...

    Splitting the difference

Yup, what he said! That is why I ended up with a 258 instead of the 257. Still, happy with the boat. It has, in my opinion, a more fishable transom than most and I haven't gone overboard working a sailfish around the boat yet ... And, though I don't admit it at home, there are times when the...

    newbie question on SeaV2 hulls

easily 5-6 decades? I don't think that is realistic. The fiberglass may last that long, but I could not expect the structural components to last that long - at least not typically. That is a long time for the stringers, transom and under-deck plywood to last. I have two friends with 1985 and...

    GPS

I have a Garmin 4208 inside the radio box of my 258 - same radio box as yours, I believe. Fits nicely. You may be able to find a used or refurbished for around $1,000. Also, I saw another 258 with a Garmin 3210 crammed in there. Not much room to spare, but it fit. I noticed that BOE Marine...

    Bimini/hardtop recommendations?

Winston: Tops are pretty easy to find on the internet. All you really need to know is the width and the height you want. Then decide if you want two, three or four bows. I think three bows is typical for boats our size. Sunbrella is good material and a little more expensive then some of the...

Seafarer 228 - Aft bilge pump float switch

I think sticking a flowing hose down there and testing the float switch is a good idea. I do that on occassion just to make sure all is working. Grady recommends running freshwater over and around the fuel tank as a rinse, so you can accomplish both at the same time. Rob

    Seafarer 228 - Livewell seacock

Sounds like you're not getting a good seal with the stand pipe. The boat should also have a threaded plug to seal the stand pipe area. Can you try putting the threaded plug in while livewell is full and see if it holds water then? If it does hold water, then I would suspect that the threads on...

    Sea Anchor

Mine does not and I don't think any would. The sock just minimizes how much wind drift your boat experiences. But the boat is still moving with the current. I use one while fishing live baits from a kite or drifting squid down deep. Can be good to keep one on board for safety reasons too...

    SunScreen Stains

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. I resorted to using Soft Scrub w ith bleach. Use it very lightly and you can avoid scratching the gelcoat. Then be prepared to put on some polish then wax. My wife got some spray-on sunscreen for the kids. Never again!
