    Just Repowered My 1999 228G with a Suzuki DF250

I know this is an older thread, but rereading it, I am surprised at the low cruise mpg numbers posted after re-powering with four strokes. I am getting three with a 20 year old 225 OX66, and would not want to spend all that money just to get 3.2, or 3.4. Is anyone getting 4+, and in what size...

    Holding Tank Question

I’d start by doing a complete pump out, And flush with as much freshwater as whoever is doing the pump out will let me get away with it, to limit what, and how much you might spill during the repair. I can’t think of a marine head with an overflow, unless it flows back through the toilet. They...

    rebuilt powerhead

You must mean the re-builder is 4.5 hours away. Hampton Roads is on the NC border, and actually includes some northeastern NC counties. I'm in the middle of NC, and can be in Richmond in 3 hours. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hampton_Roads#In_North_Carolina

    Backing plate for planer rod?

It all depends on what kind of a day the rigger who installed them was having, and the holes they drilled in the boat. I have seen properly sized holes, where all 3 bolts had plenty of bite in the wood, and good sized washers, or backing plates. I have also seen over sized holes, where the 3...

Water in the cavity of the swim platform on a 228?

Use a 6 point socket, not a 12, and not a wrench on the plastic nut.

Water in the cavity of the swim platform on a 228?

Look at the lowest point on the bottom of the box, and see if there is a flush mounted plug, which accepts an Allen wrench.

Your experience with a hydrofoil (especially on a 228)?

What Dennis said is more intuitive if your tab switches are mounted on a horizontal surface, or close to it. You can picture an outline of a boat, with your switches in the center, easier than if they are mounted vertically. There’s no telling how many people buy a boat, and never realize which...

    Deal gone south

Civil asset forfeiture is something that everyone should be aware of, and oppose at every opportunity. Law enforcement agencies in the USA take more cash every year, without probable cause, than all burglaries combined. Just commented on this on another forum today. When you see people sitting...

Your experience with a hydrofoil (especially on a 228)?

I know we have had the conversation before, and you are set in your way, but that captain never said anything about running with the engine trimmed all the way down, and I guarantee that he doesn't run that way. He only said that engine trim was his preferred way of controlling bow rise. and...

The only better boat than a Grady is a bigger Grady and I'm going bigger

"30 years in tech and lets just say there is a reason I picked "luckydude" as my login." So, always wondered where the excavator came in. Second career, hobby?

Your experience with a hydrofoil (especially on a 228)?

Largest boat I used one on was the 19 foot Four Winns cuddy, with an I/O. I got some very squirrely and unpredictable reactions, when laying it over at an angle on turns at speed. That was why I took it off, plus it did not cure my porpoising problem with that hull, which trim tabs did. I would...

    NY Boat Show, Jan 26th-30th

Pre 9/11, the lobby areas facing 11th Ave, in the front of the Center were open to the public, and badges/passes were not checked until you got to the doors of individual exhibit halls. Over the years, it became a problem, with hundreds of street people taking advantage of the clean restrooms in...

    NY Boat Show, Jan 26th-30th

I used to enjoy that show, when it was upstairs, and the NY Gift Show was going on downstairs. I could slip away and get in a few hours over the course of 2 or 3 days. Online tickets limits crowd, and eliminates long lines. Makes sense to me.

Not That Anyone Asked: My 226 Seafarer 1-Year Review

https://www.ebay.com/itm/124951625867?hash=item1d17b2808b:g:ziwAAOSw8WZhZxLJ I never had any problem with these latches not holding, unless I tilted the motor too far. They have to be in good shape, and installed carefully, to get the latching mechanism right. You could put 2 per side, for more...

Your experience with a hydrofoil (especially on a 228)?

I have used in the past, but I think that you get better results from trim tabs, and all my boats have had them for the past 20 years. Never used both on the same boat. I did swithch from a fin to trim tabs on a 19 foot Four Winns, and that was my last fin. I wouldn't trust one that is...
