Gas fill vented and grounded plastic fill

I did both fuel fills last Summer along with new tanks. Use the spacer included with the fills to raise the fill up 3/8". Helps keep water away from fill. I re-installed my green ground wire to the back-side of the screw for the chain to the metal fill cap. I don't have a photo or remember any...

    Another Fuel Tank Thread

I was talking about the tank. I did not paint the compartment. Not really necessary if fiberglass is good. The blocks are stock GW factory HDPE plastic pieces. You could make them with a table saw. Fit tight - lubed them and used a bar to keep the tank over. I replaced the Philips head screws...

    Another Fuel Tank Thread

You can probably get 20 more years out of the new tank with or without paint. Mine were epoxy painted by SP Tanks in Marmora. They didn't use an aluminum primer and it is easily scratched. I wouldn't epoxy coat - use epoxy paint and etch primer if you can. Some guys talk about fiberglassing...

New 1996 Grady White Islander 268 with twin 200 V6 Mercs

December 14, 2018. Just before Florida trip. Added fuel stabilizer after using the boat in NJ. All water in my cans except for that little bit of fuel on top. Probably ethanol-free REC 90. Pretty sure it was the o-rings that fixed it.

I always get a laugh out of the rusty cans of rust preventive products like Boshield and WD40!

    2000 Tournament 223 transom

It may be Greenwood - a better grade of plywood. It holds up better to getting wet. Not sure when GW went compost but that boat is way too early. Look for the swelling when its wet. That will tell you!

    2000 Tournament 223 transom

Swelling of transom especially around bang plate. Cracks along rub rail or well in front of engines. Get a look inside at transom. Swelling around bolts, cracking. If it looks good to you get a surveyor to check it out.

Replacing batteries on a Marlin 300

I have 4 separate batteries on my boat. 2 starting, 1 house and one for bow thruster/windlass and bait tank pumps. Charging shunts on both engines to charge the other two batteries. All Duracell AGM's from Sam's Club (best price). 3 - 34M's and 1-27M. I never shut my engines down. Yamaha...

    Installing a boat table

I re-cored my deck a few years ago because of water intrusion into the plywood. The deck is quite strong but the ports are not. The screws only go into a layer of fiberglass. You could pull the deck and reinforce the port with fiberglass. I would install blind nuts and use machine screws.

Gel Coat spider cracks - any thoughts

It's probably not structural. The chines are not heavily built up so an impact could crack the gelcoat. When I installed my bow thruster I sawed thru the chine when cleaning the space out. Look on lower left side - daylight. The gelcoat does help keep the water out of the fiberglass. I would...

    Installing a boat table

The mount is installed between the v-berts. The table is sized to fit between them to make a larger bunk. When the vertical post is installed the bunk converts to a dinette. You can probably do the same topside. The kit online has a arm that I don't have/need to offset the table top.

    Fiberglass repair

Gelcoat cracks like eggshell. The fiberglass gets banged up but will take to an epoxy repair well. If you can get underneath all the better but its probably go to repair from the topside. I would sub it out to someone but make sure they are going to Dremel out the cracks otherwise they will come...

    Black tank and pump replacement

I reworked mine. Using silicone hoses make it easier to take something apart if something goes wrong. If you are going to do this don't mount the macerator vertically - go horizontal like the one you put up. These pumps don't like to "lift" and the impellers will dry out and loose prime if not...

    Fiberglass repair

As DennisG01 said you will have to grind the area out 1/2" to 1" all around. Grind out the cracks too. Down to the glass. Then fill with epoxy and cloth for a strong repair. Grind down again to allow for a layer of gelcoat to finish the project. Your damage is in a spot that gets lots of sun...

Helm seat upgrade - 180 Sportsman

I'm 6' and if I'm sitting and running it's hard to safely see what is in front of you. I installed a new chair this season and it really works out great. The chair has a flip up front that converts the chair to a leaning post or high chair. The back flips forward so you can use the chair while...
