Marlin 300 vs. 33 Express Handling opinions

My 330 is powered by F250's. I get 1 nautical mile per gallon (nmpg) on a day's fishing. Sometimes I'll get 1.2nmpg if the water is flat (rarely here off San Francisco). My boat cruises nicely at 4,700 or 4,800 rpm's at 24 knots burning 27 GPH. This .88nmpg is offset by better economy on...

outriggers - how far down should they lay?

Ideally, they should go down as far as possible without dipping into the water on a rough day.

Marlin 300 vs. 33 Express Handling opinions

I have owned my 2006 330 for three seasons now and would submit my boat is pretty darn good in a following sea - maybe because it is stern heavy. Not sure why - maybe it's because I tend to carry full fuel and I have the heavier (?) diesel Genset. I have fished all day once on Marlin 300...

    2005 330 Express Repower

I personally think the Yamaha V6 four stroke is one of the easiest and least costly engines to maintain. But I'm a do it yourselfer for most maintenance tasks. The only thing I worry about with them is the occassional nightmare story we hear of with the dry exhaust corrossion in (mostly) the...

Express 330 has a slight list

Yes, I observed the same thing on my 330. When my boat is in the slip, engines up, I simply turn the helm so the power heads are leaning to starboard. That balances it out nicely.

    Grady longevity

Is this less of a problem with composite boat, and where is the water typically leak from? All composite boats are not risk free IMHO. Some of that foam and other composite material turns to dust after awhile. The stronger, heavier, boats are all built of marine plywood - like Grady and...

Best Anchor for a 330 Express

Due to the soft mud in San Francisco Bay, I went with an oversized (for my boat) Fortress danforth style anchor (model FX-23) matched with 60 feet of heavy chain. Have been extremely satisfied with it. Just need to drop it slowly when deploying it as it is light weight and can foul on the way...

Has anyone added a helm seat for mate on 33 Express

If she wants to see better, assign her to the helm!

    Twin F225 (2003) Question!

My suggestion: Check closely your battery cable connections. All of them. Because they can "look" good (but may not), it's healthy to remove them all, dry, sand paper, and clean them, then re-install. My guess is a poor connection somewhere. 2nd guess - dead battery. Good luck and you WILL...

    yes or no for Zinc

Another yes to zincs on tabs. And, like others, I see them wearing our faster than the engine zincs. This is a good thing I think...

    New Grady 265 Express

No offense to Whaler Owners but, I think the move from the 24' BW to the GW 265 is a no brainer. Especially if you like offshore fishing. I had a 265 and loved it. Took it way out many times on overnight tuna trips (out of San Francisco) and it was terrific. I only moved up to a 330 becuase...

    New 228 Seafarer Owner

Congratulations on the 228. It is a great, great, boat. That was my first Grady and I have many fond memories with it. I went to a 265 Express and now own a 330 Express but I sometime miss that 228! Great overall package.

Panda Diesel Genset Knock at cold start

I have a 2006 330 Express with the same generator. After watching and listening to your video - I don't hear anything really abnormal. Mine sounds the same pretty much as yours. Just be sure (1) you have oil in it, (2) your fuel + filter is good, and (3)the coolant is running out on your...

    Inverter on a 265express

Another alternative is to buy a Honda Generator as others have done (~$1K). The EU2000 is a good unit and not that heavy to move around. Just be careful of the oderless exhaust fumes. When I had my 265, we strapped the Honda on the swim step to ensure the exhaust was outside of the gunnel and...

Nasty Funk in Cockpit Shower Tank

The sump for the shower can not remove all of the water. So you will always have some amount of water there. I like never take a shower on board so I removed the unit and instead use the pump and float as an extra bilge pump which is always handy. I can reinstall the sump in about 20...

    Helm Chair Modification 33 Express

I did the same thing two years ago. Instead of buying a teak table top, I simply drilled a hole on the center of the teak pad we have on the floor of that space on the way back to the aft cabin. A single SS bolt holds it so securely you could stand on this table. This photo is a recent one...

    Power steering help

Anyone have electric assist on your steering? I do and love it (2006 330 Express). The darn thing is now intermittently working then not working. Any ideas? What, where are the connections to the motor? I don't know where to begin. Thanks,

    F250 Yamaha Corrosion

I'm liking Honda more and more. Years ago, they experienced a power head issues on all of their 1st generation BF130's. Result? They replaced all powerheads wether under warranty or not. They are a class act all the way. I will give Honda my business unless I see Yamaha provide their...
