    Islander W/F350??

I think it's more complicated than just the total engine weight. It also involves how that weight is distributed. With twins, it's spread out. Not the case with a single. However, there are many other options in the single 300 HP (much lighter) range that should be fine. 300 Opti 300...

    Bilge pump fuse size ???

Get yourself some spares while your at it. On my old boat, I had 2 spares for every single fuse on the boat, including the ones on the engine. I kept them in their individual sealed plastic bags and inside a small tupperware container to protect them. Fortunately, I never had to use a...

    226 New to GW family

I use 5 gallon portable tanks and pay whatever the cheapest price I can find between my house and work is. Last season, that ranged from like $2.25 to $3.09. And my friends around here call me stupid for lugging gas around like that... To me, it's worth the $.40 or so saved per gallon.

    1981 Mako 17 Project - 7/15/13 update

http://search.harborfreight.com/cpisear ... gine+stand I picked the 2000 lb. one because I like overkill and also because there was more room under the skeg due to the legs being out the to sides. One guy I talked to on CM said he mounted a 25" 250 Yam on the same stand without any...

    1981 Mako 17 Project - 7/15/13 update

You just bolt the motor to the stand just like you would bolt it to a transom. This pic shows 25" Optis on similar stands. My 115 is a 20" so it will fit just fine and my stand doesn't have the bar directly under the skeg either.

1988 Overnighter dash rebuild and bulkhead replacement

I like those gauges! Are they Faria Chesapeake SS? :) My recommendation would be the build your panel on UV-stable Rowmark engraving stock and have the switch functions engraved in the panel itself. Also, IMHO the switches would be better layed out and more easily labeled if you put them...

    Grady safety issue/question

If you hit something hard enough to rip one of those off, you're going to have other problems....big ones. They have a low enough profile that they should deflect an impact pretty well without sustaining catastrophic damage. The wooden plugs are still a good idea though, but I really don't...

    Leak in my cabin.... Help

Maybe try sticking the nut/washer to a dowed rod using a dab of 5 minute epoxy? That would effectively increase your reach so you could get the nut started. Then you could get a ratchet on it while someone held the screw stationary from the top. In this case, I would also bed the hardware...

    1981 Mako 17 Project - 7/15/13 update

Unfortunately, I don't have any progress on the boat itself to report, but I did get my engine stand put together today. :) A few weeks (maybe months) ago, I ordered the 2000 lb. capacity one from Harbor Freight. It's been sitting in my garage for a while now assembled, but the hardware...

Shell Shock: NY Boat SHow Prices

B-Faithful and I hit the Timonium Fishing Expo here in MD earlier today. The local GW dealer only brought a few smaller boats so I didn't really look too closely. I did however, crawl around on the new Sea Hunt 245 walkaround and was EXTREMELY impressed. It seemed quite a bit bigger than the...

    Trolling with twins

Depends on the seas. If it's nice and calm, I'll troll on one. But if things are a bit confused, I run both for added control. That's slow trolling (about 2.5 kts) for striped bass.

    What Did You Use ...

Don't use those rubber strips!!! They are the primary cause of tank failure. You'de be better off foaming the tank in and taking steps to ensure the hatch is 100% sealed.

1988 Overnighter dash rebuild and bulkhead replacement

I did my first spot repairs on hullsides with paste and I'll never use it again. It was so thick I ended up with tiny pinholes. The next time I tried, I added a reducer that I got from Minicraft and that helped a lot, but it was still a pain. Now I just use liquid all the time and if I need...

1988 Overnighter dash rebuild and bulkhead replacement

I've used that Minicraft gelcoat before and it matches very well. But depending on how faded the hull is, you may have to do some compounding to the get rest of the boat to match your new gelcoat. Did you buy the liquid so you can spray it, or the paste? You guys should have found this boat...

    Yes

You should really have those panels sitting on the flat, hard floor while the epoxy sets up to ensure they don't develop a permanent bow. Nice job. :)
