'93 Sailfish Flush Mount Project - 3/2/08 Update

Well, after nearly a year's hiatus I am back to work on this project. I took some time on Saturday to trace my templates on to the 3/8" Seafoam Starboard. I actually traced them slightly larger than I need them to be so I can fine tune them for an exact fit. Then I cut out the basic shapes on...

    Towing Sailfish 272 with a D-max

You won't have any problems. I tow a '93 252 Sailfish (it's only 200 lbs. less) with an '03 HEMI Ram 2500. She's surprisingly easy to pull.

REPOWER QUESTION FOR AN OFFSHORE 24

You really can't go wrong with any of the current 225s as long as they say Mercury on the side. :D My first choice would be a 225 Opti. My buddy has one on his 25' Maycraft and that motor is crazy efficient, but it's a bit on the loud side. If low purchase price is a concern, get a...

Question: Enjoying 2-3 foot sea days

A '93 252G is what you want. I have one, it's for sale so I can step up. See my sig. for a link to a thread with all the details. :D Unlike new Grady's, the one I'm selling is affordable.

Removing a name and blending the gell coat

You've got some gelcoat oxidation and fading of the areas where the name didn't provided protection. That's why it still shows. The only way to really get it to match is to compound all the faded areas. Last year, I removed the signature Grady stripes off of my '93 and then compounded...

    repower my 1998 208

If you wanna stay with Yamaha, go with the 200 HPDI. A 200 Opti will give you better mileage and performance through. You don't wanna find yourself down on power coming through that inlet.

    Price on Re-Power

Call me crazy, but I would take the Merc to Almar's in DE for a rebuild and paint job before I sunk that much coin into a new Yamaha.

    Aluminum cleaner/restorer/polish

I use Woddy Wax on mine. It does pretty well but doesn't restore a like new finish. You definitely don't want to use any sort of abrasive on it because that will remove the anodizing that protects the AL. Then it will really start to look like sh*t. The best way to keep AL pipework...

    Yes.

It does come in varying thicknesses. I had purchased a full sheet of 3/4" so I'de have the right thickness for the hatch and locker doors. The parts I needed to be thinner I just ripped down on my tablesaw. Watch your fingers.... :) Don't ask me how I know that.

    Yamaha 300??

I've heard it's nothing more than a detuned F350. I'm sorry, but there are better options out there in the 300 HP range than a 800+ lb. V8.
  16. G

    Yes.

I've seen it done in black and IMHO it looks terrible. I would stick with a wood grain or try to match the gelcoat. Seafoam starboard matches very well. I used it all over my old boat.

    Yes.

Tbone, make sure you post some pics of that Mahogany installed. I bet that is going to look great!

I'M OUT OF CONTROL--is no bracket the reason?

You've already stated that your tabs are up, so that's good. My questions are 1) how do you have the engines themselves trimmed? and 2) what props are you running?

    STRIPING

The stripes on the hull sides came off very easily. I just picked up an edge with my fingernail and pulled very slowly. Each one came off in two or three big pieces. The ones on the cabin sides were a bit trickier. They broke up rather easily. If I remember correctly, a razor blade was...
