From what I remember of the 24 Offshore, the transom cutout is EXTREMELY low. I would absolutely tighten up the sides, go 30" and add some sort of substantial removable bulkhead. Should have little effect on the ability of the hull to shed water and you'll be much safer in the big pond.

There was a thread on here about those drains a while back. I don't remember who posted it but the OEM part was identified. I bought a few based on that info. I'll dig them out and see what I can gather for you. In my old 227, the nuts were so corroded that they didn't resemble nuts anymore.

The transom on my '93 Sailfish was flat. That's the Springfield bracket that just has bolts along the sides and bottom, right?
