226 Glove box delete/electronics mount upgrade

Looks good. :goodjob My only recommendation to those considering a similar project is to use regular pan head screws and simply counter sink them. Using those finish washers just provides the illusion of a larger fastener and draws ones attention to them. Countersinking holds just fine and...

Fuel Tank material for 265 Express and 232 Gulfstream

You can't judge the condition of a tank by looking in through the sender hole. You have to pull it for visual inspection out and pressure test it if you still aren't sure. The tank in my old Formula looked mint on the inside... Corroded with a few holes on the outside... The tank in my...

looking for pics of older 2-stroke outboard riggings?

There's not a whole lot you can do with those older motors where the wiring enters one side and the fuel enter the other. It's a stupid design. Newer motors (Yamaha started around '91) have the eletrical harnesses, fuel line, oil line and control cables all enter on the same side of the...

    '86 Offshore Repower Problem, converting a 30" shaft to a 25

Re: '86 Offshore Repower Problem, converting a 30" shaft to Stick the '01 225 powerhead on the '99 225 midsection. Swap the transom bracket from the '01 to the '99 to get the SN to follow the powerhead. SN is on the little sticker to the left of the tilt tube in this photo... ...or...

    1986 Seafarer 227: 5/6/14 Update - Stringer extension prep

Re: 1986 Seafarer 227 Not-A-Project: 4/29/13 Update A little bit of progress to report... Got the outdrive hole just about ready for plugging. I still need to go back and do my grinding to clean things up. Made some templates for the outdrive hole plugs. Cut the plugs out of a scrap...

Need advice- Repower 1993 246GT Explorer

The bracket issues are mainly due to corrosion if it hasn't been cared for properly. Those are easily detected though. Flaking paint, porous aluminum, etc. If weight is a concern, look at the Suzuki 140s. They are a hair over 400 lbs and will cost WAY less than F150 Yamahas.

    1981 Mako 17 Project - 7/15/13 update

Re: 1981 Mako 17 Project - transom is done!!! I found a bit of bad wood in the center stringer, so I went ahead and cut out a bit more of the floor to gain better access for additional exploratory surgery. This allowed me to pull the skin off of another 12" or so the stringer. This time I...

    Lower leg stuck.

Are you sure you got all the bolts? If I remember correctly, my old 225 Yams had 7. 3 per side and one hidden under the trim tab.

    1977 GW Pacer Repower

Sounds to me like you have the Breezeworks Low Mount alternator kit on that engine. http://breezeworks.net/en-us/p_86.html If the 4.3 will fit, and you get everything with it, I don't think you'll have any problems. I would expect the gimbal housing and transom plate to fit the existing...

    1977 GW Pacer Repower

I've Mercruisers in both the 3.0 and 3.7/470/170/190 flavors...but never ran either. The 3.0s were in an old Formula 233 and were coupled to the MR1 outdrives. The 190 was in my 227 and was paried with an Alpha1 Gen 1. I am pretty sure the Alpha lower unit will bolt up to the MR1, but I don't...

    Installing transom xducer - help

You won't have any problems with the epoxy plug cracking as long as you drill your pilot holes properly. They have to be a little larger than when screwing into wood.

    1977 GW Pacer Repower

Your best bet would be to discuss your options with a Mercruiser dealer. They can tell you what engine may be compatible with your current transom plate/gimbal housing/outdrive/etc....or if you need to refresh the entire power system.

    1986 Seafarer 227: 5/6/14 Update - Stringer extension prep

    Re: 1986 Seafarer 227 Not-A-Project: 4/29/13 Update That's the idea...but it probably won't happen. I don't work fast enough...

Sailfish: sealant for the bottom of the transom cap...?

I would pull the motors, grind that little raised lip off and glass it.

New wiring upgraded panel, what do you think?

I like the use of the breakers and labeled rocker switches, but the switches appear to be poorly fit/misaligned and the large finish washers really take away from the clean look of the panel itself. Still a nice improvement though. :)

    1986 Seafarer 227: 5/6/14 Update - Stringer extension prep

Re: 1986 Seafarer 227 Not-A-Project: 2/24/13 Update Got a little more done over the past few weekends. Nothing real exciting though. Spent a few hours pulling out the rigging for the old Mercruiser. Gauge panel, engine wiring harness, throttle, throttle cables, helm and steering cable. I...

Flush mount electronics on a 226?

If you have the patience and tools, you can easily get professional results doing the work yourself. I flush mounted most of the electronics in my old Sailfish using 3/8" seafoam Starboard and the panels turned out great. After removing the doors, I templated each opening with a piece of...
