    Transom Straps or Stern Strap?

Agree on not using the over gunnel type straps. I did this for a while on my older boat and it was a pain to get the strap over without damage when trying to throw it across, but mostly did some gelcoat damage with scratches, etc. It is pretty quick to just use the straps on the transom eye's...

Where can I buy Grady Color starboard or similar

X2 on boatoutfitters in seafoam. Pretty close. I think you can order samples from them. Seafoam color is the closest out there to Grady color from what I have seen and heard. I used it for trim and it looks pretty good.

    Transom Straps or Stern Strap?

I get some really heavy trucker type straps from Northern Tool as this has been the only place I could find these that are short enough. These work very well. Have to spray some lube on them once in a while and replace them every couple of years. I leave a short section of extra bright yellow...

    Faded Grady White lettering

I got some new decals for my Sailfish last year on Ebay. Good quality and were not very expensive.

Got my first real issue with my Suzuki DT225

Let's hope it is as simple as the impeller stuck. This weekend when I pulled out at the ramp, another guy pulled out and up next to me and started asking about fishing luck. It dawned on me that his motor was sitting there on the trailer and peeing. I asked him, is your motor still running? He...

    208 wood grain cockpit trim

Good thoughts..lots of work though for some of this. For now, the expansion is not too bad. When I order the thicker foot rail this winter, will look more into how to make it work better on the foot rail.

    208 wood grain cockpit trim

That is the same edge I routed on my footrail as well. It looked just like what Grady is installing on newer models. Pinning in middle is ok, but on ends, there is no way to do the slot as the screws are tapered and go in tight into the fiberglass. If not, they would be loose and just keep...

bracket drain plug size and removal.

I think the idea behind the heat is to just perform some metal expansion and contraction from heating and cooling cycles. This puts some movement of the threads contact surfaces and hopefully helps to loosen some. Putting the heat directly to plug only will allow it to heat faster than...

    208 wood grain cockpit trim

Ah, I forgot to mention the other scenario. Some others have painted theirs and liked it, but no one has come back with experience after about a year or so. From being a former professional painter, I would say that spray paint by nature is very soft and will marr or scratch very easily...

    208 wood grain cockpit trim

Do yourself a favor and do some searches on this and them make up your mind what you think. Lots of variables. 1. Grady says to recoat the Duratrim with Penetrol. I tried this and it does help make it look better. Easy to apply. Just wipe on and let it dry. Some additional coats might improve...

Repairing leaky windows on GW Sailfish

Tim, report back if you would and let us know how it turns out. I would love to recondition mine also, but not sure the cost. So far, they are not leaking. Just a bit difficult to slide. Have been afraid to lube them as not sure what to use safely.

bracket drain plug size and removal.

I had the same problem with mine when I bought the boat. Someone had actually epoxied over top of them. They are aluminum plugs and very soft. I found a 8pt. socket I think to fit the plug and put an extention on it after heating up. I moved it some back and forth working it out eventually. The...

    REgelcoating?

I agree from that perspective, first time experience can be a disaster. I spent a lot of time researching, reading, studying and of course testing some smaller projects before I took the plunge. But, this is no different than using paint. If paint is not mixed properly, surface is not prepped...

    REgelcoating?

I disagree about the gel-coat. I have found it to be superior to paint for boat. If scratched, easily fixed. Paint, not so much. I used to paint with high end paints on auto's to construction equipment for years and still prefer gel-coat. Sanding and Polishing is not as bad as one thinks. Just...

    What wax do you like?

Good results with the Shurhold Pro Polish in regards to easy to apply and remove. It does a good job protecting also. Here is a link to it: http://shurhold.com/pro-polish. I invested in the Shurhold products a while back, the orbital polisher and have to say it does a great job and makes it...

Overnighter rod holder & outrigger backing plates?

I think in most cases for rod holders, just good size screws would work fine assuming you are not fishing with huge rods/reels with heavy pull like done during shark fishing or offshore bent butt rods, etc. For the outriggers, definitely backing plates to help distribute the load. My older...

Bottle cap liner fell into gas tank

Hi Dennis, assume you mean does the tank have both tubes? In my case, each tank double dips....assuming due to twin motors. Pic to show the typical layout:

Bottle cap liner fell into gas tank

I pulled the tube from my older boat and it had no screen. The first blockage point was the check valve fitting at the top of the tube. I know on the Grady, there is no screen either as I am getting some residue in my filters that I am sure a screen would block. When I looked at the tubes when...

Bottle cap liner fell into gas tank

I have always had this same fear! Sometimes the seal sticks to the bottle and not the cap, so I try to remember to look before I pour. Would hate to be in your position for sure! I would do this if it was mine..... Crank up boat on trailer (hope it is trailered) so it is fully tilted to the...
